You know better than we do what you want, so we just make it easy for you to find it. Once you get online you will find that we have provided a starting point for you to access all this information.

Email addresses are all lower case, and have between 4 and 8 characters followed by @soltec.net.

 

 
 


Your password is:

Passwords are case-sensitive and are between 6 and 8 characters long; If you are having problems please check the Caps Lock light on your keyboard to make sure it is off

These directions contain simple step-by-step instructions for getting on the Internet. All you need is a computer, a Modem, and a Telephone line. Soon you will have access to the worldÕs largest collection of information and the fastest growing media to date. You will be able to communicate with people across town and all over the world. You will be able to get information on topics that interest you didnÕt know existed.

Creating a Dial-up connection in Windows 95/98

 
 


  1. Double click the My Computer icon on the desktop.

  1. Double-click the Dial-up Networking icon.

  1. Double-click the Make New Connection icon






  1. Type in Sol Tec for the name of the computer. Click the Next button to continue.

  1. In the Telephone number field, type your local access number and then click the Next button.

Note: If you require 10-digit dialing in order to access a local number, make sure to include your area code.
Note: Remember... Your local telephone company has the final word on whether a call is local for you. Please contact them to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.




  1. Click the Finish button

 

  1. Right-click on the Sol Tec icon and select Create Shortcut

 

 

  1. A warning box will pop-up asking if you would like to put the shortcut on the desktop.
    Click on Yes
    to continue.

  1. Right-click on the Sol Tec icon and select Properties.

  1. Un-check the checkbox next to Use area code and Dialing Properties.
    Then select the Server Types
    tab at the top.

  1. Un-check all boxes except for Enable software compression and TCP/IP.
    Click OK
    to continue.

  1. Double-click the Sol Tec icon.

  1. In the User Name box, enter your full email address.
    In the Password
    box, enter the password that you signed up with.
    Click Connect
    to dialup to the Internet.

14.  Congratulations! You have now completed the dialup setup. If you are ready to surf the Internet, go to the next step. If you would like to setup your e-mail, proceed to the next page.

 

15.  To visit webpages, you need to use a web browser. There is one built-in to Windows 95/98 called Internet Explorer. You should see an icon on your desktop similar to the one below. To use Internet Explorer, simply double-click the blue E.

 

 

Note: Sol Tec also recommends Mozilla Firefox as an alternative web browser. You can download it from their website:

Configuring Outlook Express

Mail Setup

 

1.     Open Outlook Express. (double-click the icon on your desktop that looks like the one below)


2.     If this is the first time you have used Outlook Express, you will be prompted for some information.  If you do not get prompted with a setup wizard, please click on ÒToolsÓ in the menu bar then ÒAccountsÓ. 

3.     Click on the ÒMailÓ tab, then click on Add, then ÒMailÓ. 

 

 

4.     Your Name: use your real name for Display Name. When you are finished, click Next.




5.     E-mail Address: Type in your Sol Tec e-mail address for E-mail Address.
Click on Next.

 

 

 

6.     E-mail Server Names: Your incoming mail server should be set to POP3.  Select POP3 from the drop-down menu.  In the box labeled "Incoming mail [POP3, IMAP or HTTP] server:" type mail.soltec.net.  In the box labeled "Outgoing mail [SMTP] server:" type smtp.soltec.net.  Click on Next.

 



 

7.     Account name: Enter your full email address here.

8.     Password: Enter the password that you signed up with here.
Click Next
.

 

 

           

9.     Click on Finish to return to the accounts screen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

10.  You should now see your Sol Tec account listed on the accounts screen.

(it should be labeled mail.soltec.net)

 

11.  Double-click on the Sol Tec account which will open a properties screen.



12.  Click in the box at the bottom of the properties screen that says
ÒMy server requires authenticationÓ
.
Click OK
and you will return to the Accounts screen.

 

13.  Congratulations! You have now completed the e-mail setup and you are ready to check your e-mail. If you do not want to configure News click on Close to exit the configuration window, otherwise go to the next step.

 

News

 

14.  Click on the ÒNewsÓ tab and then click on Add then ÒNewsÓ. You should now fill out the information you are prompted for.

 

15.  Your Name: use your real name for Display Name. Click on Next.

16.  Internet E-mail Address: type in your Sol Tec e-mail address for E-mail Address.

17.  Internet News Server Names: make sure your settings look like this:

 

            

Click on Next.

18.   Congratulations: click on Finish and you have now completed the News setup and you are ready to read Newsgroups. Click on Close to exit the configuration window.
